About:
The MX200 Archive is an online archive documenting the vernacular design of motocross apparel from the 1990's and early 2000s. The unique and expressive visual language stemmed from the subculture of early offroad motortcycle racers who developed motocross racing, and later invented the lifestyle, culture and industry around it, ultimately leading to mainstream success and global recognition within pop-culture. The MX2000 Archive specifically highlights how community-driven innovation produced a vibrant, expressive form of visual design, by following its vernacular design practice which values local culture, craft, and visual slang to foster multiplicity within visual design. This project was made as a master thesis at Aalto University.
